Introduction
This image is of John J. Pershing and his soldiers crossing a river in Mexico while stationed in the country. The photographer is unknown however it is known that this photograph was taken in 1916. This photograph reveals the documentation by the United States of their troops, especially John J. Pershing, while stationed in Mexico. This photograph works to show that even in 1916 John J. Pershing and his soldiers still have a presence in Mexico on behalf of the United States.
Many of the primary sources have been of John J. Pershing in Mexico but they span across several years. The U.S. consistently kept troops, specifically John J. Pershing, in Mexico for seemingly very little reason other than simply demonstrating that the U.S. can. By stationing troops in the country, the United States were demonstrating distrust towards Mexico to govern and control the country effectively and invasiveness by simply keeping troops in the country.
