Introduction
This short video shot by the Columbia Broadcasting System Inc. in 1908 depicts General John J. Pershing and his troops conducting a review while in Mexico. This video comes after the recent start of filming wars. Here you can see horses, provisions, and sufficient troops stationed and existing in Mexico. The film does not contain any sound and the images are in black and white but from the video you can clearly see the number of troops that were inhabiting parts of Mexico.
This video can be viewed as the U.S. showing that they still had troops in Mexico in 1908 and therefore had some control over Mexico even after treaties had been signed and promises of withdrawal had been made by the U.S. The video also contains a brief piece of text that reads “Border Guard in Review for General Pershing. 17 Guns for the General, 5th Cavalry in Review.” From this text one can assume that General Pershing’s troops were stationed close to the Mexico-U.S. border and were armed even after peaceful negotiations had been made and coexistence between Mexico and the U.S. had been the case for many years.
